Harabel Contemporary Art Platform invites in its premises the curator and writer Marina Fokidis, for a talk on “Curating and its entaglements”, which will take place on March 6th, 2020, at 6 pm. During the meeting, she will focus on the activity reflected in South as a State of Mind magazine, as well as her role during Documenta 14.

“In the last decade, the focal point of the so-called art world has shifted from a few major centers to a multiplicity of artistic communities around the globe. Cultural power is still perhaps concentrated in some cities and regions more than others, but the affinities between the so-called “peripheral locations” have started to shape a different geography of ‘contemporary art’.

How can we go even further, beyond the cultural dependence between the ‘center’ and the ‘peripheries’? How can we resolve the power asymmetries that such relations produce?  Is it possible to decentralize the canon completely?

Maybe by questioning constantly the notions of place, perspective and orientation, we can arrive at the formation of a new vocabulary that entails risks and dangers but also promises new forms of solidarity and interconnectedness beyond the hegemonic relation of the ‘middle’ and the ‘margin’. After all, positioning depends on the vanishing point of the subject in question.”

About the curator 

*Marina Fokidis is a curator and writer based in Athens Greece. Amongst other projects she is the founding and artistic director of the newly established Kunsthalle Athena, the first art institution of this short in Athens which started as an experimental platform and is taking now its permanent form. From 2000 to 2008 she served as the director of Oxymoron a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of contemporary visual art in Greece and on an international level. She has been the commissioner and the curator of the Greek Pavillion at the 51rst Venice Biennial, (2003) and one of the curators of the 1rst Tirana Biennial (2001).

She has curated a number of exhibitions, such as: Her(His)tory, an exhibition of the major video collections of the last decades, which has joined the permanent historical collections, at the Cycladic Museum of Art in Athens (2007); Anathena, an exhibition held at the DESTE Foundation, based on the Athenian underground scene (2006), etc.; Random Rules – Youtube channel of Selected Artists, presented live online and displayed on Pulse Art Fair (New York, 2009); Midsummer Nights Dream, a three months screening program – part of Remap 2 (program parallel to the 2009 Athens Biennale). She has written essays for various edited collections and for many international art magazines, and is the the chief art editor of LIFO, a significant cultural free press magazine in Greece.

Platforma e Artit Bashkëkohor Harabel fton në mjedisin e saj kuratoren dhe shkrimtaren Marina Fokidis për bashkëbisedimin me temë “Kurimi dhe kleçkat e tij”, i cili do të zhvillohet më datë 6 mars 2020, në orën 18:00. Gjatë takimit, ajo do të përqendrohet te veprimtaria e pasqyruar në revistën “South as a State of Mind”, si dhe te roli i vet gjatë përfshirjes në “Dokumenta 14”.

“Në dhjetëvjeçarin e fundit, pika qendrore e së ashtuquajturës botë e artit është zhvendosur nga qendrat kryesore në një mori bashkësish artistike në mbarë globin. Ndoshta, fuqia kulturore është ende e përqendruar në disa qytete dhe rajone më shumë sesa në disa të tjera, por lidhjet midis të ashtuquajturave “rrethina” kanë filluar t’i japin formë një gjeografie ndryshe të “artit bashkëkohor”.

Si mund të shkojmë edhe më larg, përtej varësisë kulturore midis “qendrës” dhe “rrethinave”? Si mund t’i zgjidhim asimetritë e fuqisë që lindin nga marrëdhënie të tilla? A është e mundur të çqendërzohet plotësisht sistemi?

Ndoshta, duke vënë në pyetje vazhdimisht pikëpamjet, këndvështrimin dhe orientimin, ne mund të arrijmë në formimin e një fjalori të ri që përfshin të papritura dhe rreziqe, por gjithashtu premton forma të reja solidariteti dhe ndërlidhjeje përtej marrëdhënies hegjemonike të “mesit” dhe “kufirit”. Në fund të fundit, pozicionimi varet nga pika e zhdukjes së çështjes në fjalë.”

Rreth kuratores:

*Marina Fokidis është kuratore dhe shkrimtare me qëndrim në Athinë (Greqi). Ajo është themeluese dhe drejtuese artistike e platformës eksperimentale Kunsthalle Athena. Nga viti 2000 deri në vitin 2008, ajo ka qenë drejtoreshë e organizatës jofitimprurëse kushtuar përhapjes së artit pamor bashkëkohor në Greqi dhe në nivel ndërkombëtar, Oxymoron. Ajo ka qenë komisionere dhe kuratore e pavijonit grek në Bienalen e 51-të të Venecias (2003), si dhe një ndër kuratoret e Bienales së parë të Tiranës (2001).

Ka kuruar një sërë ekspozitash, si për shembull: Historia e saj (e tij), një ekspozitë e videove kryesore të dhjetëvjeçarëve të fundit, që u është bashkuar koleksioneve të përhershme historike, në Muzeun e Artit Cycladic, në Athinë (2007); Anathena, një ekspozitë e mbajtur në fondacionin DESTE, me qendër në skenën nëntokësore athinase (2006) etj., duke përmendur gjithashtu kurimin për: Rregulla të rastësishme – kanal i artistëve të përzgjedhur nga Youtube, i paraqitur drejtpërdrejt në internet dhe i shfaqur në Pulse Art Fair (New York, 2009); Midsummer Nights Dream (Ëndrra e një nate vere), një shfaqje tremujore – pjesë e Remap 2 (program paralel me Bienalen e Athinës 2009). Ka shkruar ese për koleksione të ndryshme dhe për shumë revista ndërkombëtare arti, si dhe është kryeredaktore e revistës së rëndësishme kulturore për shtyp në Greqi, LIFO.
